Project Description:

Need a Linux Ubuntu | Squid Proxy Server for the purpose of internet filtering.
The goal of this project is to create an easy-to-implement solution that a family can use to filter internet content, customized for individual needs. There are many solutions on the market today, but none of them provide granular control. Some offer solutions with preset filter categories that do a poor job of filtering offensive content. Others block too much or only have an "all or nothing" capability policy for each domain. We want to develop a solution using Squid that will provide total control on what is allowed and what is blocked, down to the file level, with individual settings on a per MAC address basis.
Attached is a more detailed specification. This specification may not be complete or final, but it should be pretty close. It should be close enough to give you an idea about what we are trying to achieve. Feel free to ask questions or make suggestions on how to best accomplish the goal. Some of my terminology may be wrong or my logic. I am less than a novice when it comes to how UNIX, Squid, Apache, and routers work. That is why i am looking for an Expert. Hopefully you will understand what i am looking for once you read the spec. I would think this would be pretty easy for someone who knows their stuff.
I have a PC with a fresh install of Ubuntu, Apache and Squid and a NetGear Router ready for testing. The PC is dedicated to developing this solution, so if we need to wipe it clean and use a different flavor of Linux or whatever, we can do that. I would really love to have a solution ready to test by this weekend.
The deliverable for this project would be a working solution, like what is described in the attached spec, including installation and management documentation.
Read the spec and let me know what you think is possible and whether you have any questions.
Thank you for considering my project.
Kind Regards,
Chris

If your solution can assign Custom Filtering settings based on IP address instead of MAC address, then that is fine. I just want some way to make sure certain devices get specific filters.
