I'm a publisher of sci-fi and I'm running this contest to find my next series concept. I'm buying the idea itself: the winning pitch becomes my property to develop and use however I want. You don't need to be a writer. You need a great series idea. What kind of series I'm looking for: Space opera adventure with a strong character focus. Fun, engaging, with humor woven through it. Real stakes and real danger, but no grimdark: books should leave the reader entertained and on a positive note. The story starts on present-day Earth, with an ordinary person. Earth does not know that aliens exist; humanity is a small, unknown player in a galaxy that doesn't care about us. Then something happens that pulls this ordinary person off Earth and into space. The main character(who is a man) should not carry the series alone. The setup of your idea should naturally allow for other important characters at the main character's side: a companion, a partner in the adventure, a small crew, or a group. You don't need to describe these characters in your pitch. The setup just needs to make room for them within the series The Earth part should be short. The main character gets off the planet early, and the real adventure happens out in space: a big, alive galaxy full of different races, worlds, and dangers. The fun of the series is an ordinary human discovering and surviving this galaxy. The structure I need: The series must be built for the long run. Each book delivers a complete, self-contained adventure with its own problem and resolution, while a bigger story slowly develops underneath across the series. Your pitch (maximum 500 words) must cover: The premise: who the main character is and how they get pulled off Earth and into the adventure. The engine: what generates a new adventure in every book. Why does this character keep ending up in new situations, new places, with new problems? This needs to be a repeatable mechanism, not a one-off. The overarching arc: the bigger story that develops in the background across the series and where it's heading. It should start small and grow, not open at galaxy-ending scale in book one. Rules: Maximum 500 words. Anything over 500 words will not be considered. One pitch per participant. Send your best idea, not three half-baked ones. Original ideas only. Don't pitch me an existing franchise with the names changed. AI may be used to help structure and refine your idea, but simply submitting an AI-generated pitch will not win this contest. I've read thousands of pages of AI text and I will recognize it. Do not send a series bible, an outline document, or sample chapters. The pitch only. The winning idea receives the prize money, and full rights to the concept transfer to me.
