I am remodeling the entrance and facade for an old commercial office building.
I already have a preliminary facade concept using curtainwall glass. However, I have discovered that the costs for the curtainwall glass will exceed our construction budget, so I want to explore an aesthetically pleasing facade using storefront glass (maximum 4'W x 10' high panels) and possibly other textures, materials, colours.
Storefront glass will require additional structural steel, which must be incorporated in the design in an aesthetically appealing manner.
Additional materials (such as corrugated tin, wood, or even just paint over the existing concrete block wall) can be utilized to improve the aesthetics of the building. Note that this building is located in Canada.

The contest winner must provide a copy of the modified sketchup file to the contest sponsor, but contest submissions can be either SKP files or JPG files showing mulitple angle views.

Clarification: The building is only about 4" away from property line and city sidewalk. A Canopy is allowed to extend 8' off of building over the sidewalk. However we cannot have anything at street level that extends past the property line.

Feel free to also use some of the design that the owner already have spent quite a bit of time developing. The design does not have to be drastically different. the main objective was to reduce costs by going to storefront glass, but at the same time to perhaps improve in some ways, especially considering that there would be structural steel to consider. I have also added another photo with lots of pictures of the building on all sides. The intent of this contest is to improve the main 7th avenue street entrance, but we will want to integrate the other sides of the building also at some point in time.

Note that in order to reduce constructions costs, one of the design constraints listed was to limit the height of the individual glass sections to 10' for storefornt glass instead of curtainwall glass (which is much more expensive ~ 2 x cost). Storefront glazing panels can be about 4' wide if they are 10' tall. If any glass expanse is more than than 10' in height, there would need to be structural steel (and finishing) to support the upper level of glass.

I have added another document in the design notes folder which highlights some of the interior constraints of the building. The building was built in 3 separate phases many years apart. Phase 1 and 2 share the same elevations, but phase 3 has different interior floor elevations.

Yes the 3DS file would be fine. I am mostly interested in obtaining a design that makes this building have great street appeal. I thought sketchup would have been easier to start with since the building dimensions and proportions are already provided and are correct. Dimensions and proportions are important to consider. Thanks for your question.

3ds max is OK. Sketchup already has the 3D model created so would be an easier starting point.
