I have been teaching aptitude and maths for the last ten years. I go to schools and teach manipulatives to school children. I used to create card games to make the class interesting. One of them is given below: Addition and Subtraction Card game: To be played by two or more players. Assume A,B and C are playing the game. The deck of cards is to be shuffled and eight cards to be given to each player. Remaining cards to be kept in the centre facing down! One among these is taken out by the person who shuffles and is kept face up above the remaining cards. This is the ‘target’ card. Imagine it is 8. It is A’s turn. If he has a six and a two he takes them out from his pile and keep them down. If from the remaining he has, say, a jack (10) and a 2 these are also kept down. All the cards that add up to 8 or give 8 on subtraction (4+5-Ace) is kept down. Once this matching with 8 is over he removes as many cards as he has used for form 8 from the centre pack. It is B’s turn. He does the same. Then it is C’s turn. Now A will be having 8 cards with him. He repeats the process of forming 8. He fills up his cards by taking from the centre. This is done till there is no more card in the centre. The person who has formed the maximum 8’s is the winner.
