Could You Use the Expertise of David Ogilvy...Joe Sugarman...Gene Schwartz...Dan Kennedy...and Herschell Gordon Lewis?
I'm going to share a rather unusual story with you...
I know you're busy - so I'll keep it short.
I became a copywriter by accident.
I’ll explain...
You see, I was working for a time share vacation club company as a call center manager.
We all got notices for openings in various departments. One day I got one from the marketing department - they wanted a copywriter.
I had no clue what a copywriter was at that time - thought it was like “newspaper copy."
Now, I've been writing all my life - mostly comedy, and short stories. So I thought I'd apply.
The director asked me to write an "audition." A letter to club members trying to sell them on the idea of vacationing at one of our resorts in Myrtle Beach - in winter.
If it was good they would use it and hire me into the marketing department.
I thought, "pfft - no way are people going to want to go to the beach in the cold," but I set out to do my best...
I began researching and found all kinds of great things happening in that area during the winter months. Light festivals...FREE concerts...hay rides through the crisp, lush countryside...fireworks -twice a week - Southern Elegance Casino Cruises...and - of course - world-class golf.
As I sifted through all the activities, I began to get excited about the subject myself! When I had what I thought was a compelling yarn to spin I sat down and wrote my letter.
Turns out I had not only hit the nail on the head, I drove it through a frozen 2-by-4. They used the letter and it worked - the reservation department ended up turning vacationers away.
That experience changed my life...I suddenly realized how powerful the written word can actually be - and a wildfire began to burn inside me.
Since then I’ve studied Ogilvy, Sugarman, Schwartz, Kennedy, and Lewis...
All the sales muscle of the Big Dog writers...melted into one...
I’ve written for a variety of products and services - Agora Inc., Motley Fool, internet dating, Barton Publishing, real estate, web services – an ad selling membership to a replica watch buyer's club...imagine that!
It's now 'round 5 years since I learned what copywriting really is and I can't think of myself doing anything else.
I'd love to take the next step and join a team of creative "geeks" like me...one that's a little crazy but loves what they do as much as I do...bouncing thoughts off each other and coming up with the Big Idea that'll funnel the sales.
After reading your ad, I feel I'm the right guy for the position you're offering.
All I ask is for the chance to show you - pretty simple, really.
Let me know the best time to talk - I'm ready to go to work when you are.
Thanks for reading,
