We are looking for long term assistance in extracting data from the "results" section of the Racing Post website ([login to view URL]) and putting it into an Excel sheet. We extract details of about 110 races a month, but this is the long term crude average. In the Winter months numbers are often much less and in the Spring and Summer much more. Over the last 40 months the average race has had 10 runners, but again this varies greatly, with as few as from 2 and as many as 36.
For each race we extract four pieces of data: date of race, course race run on, length of race, and going on which race is run. For each runner in the race we extract six pieces of data: horse name, the weight it carried, its Official Rating, its finishing position, the distance it won by (in the case of the winner) or distance it finished behind the winner (in the case of all other runners), and its starting odds. The data is placed in an Excel sheet, sample attached, as follows:
Col. A - date of race
Col. B - index no. (In the sample the next race would be 1001, then 1002 etc)
Col. C - course. For racecourses with short names such as York, Epsom and Redcar, the names in full. For longer ones the first four letters ie Newmarket = Newm., Newbury = Newb. etc
Col. D - horse names with, for each race, winner first, second second etc
Cols. E and F left blank
Col. G - race distance to nearest half furlong (but usually a whole number eg 8, 10
Col. H - weight, always a three or four digit number, eg 10.02 or 9.10
Col. I - the horse's Official Rating (OR), always a two or three digit number
Col. J - the going: seven possibilities: good = g, good to firm = g/f, good/soft = g/s, firm = f, soft = s, heavy = h, standard = aw
Col. K - finishing position, from 1 to 36. Occasionally two horses dead heat, so for example there may be two finishing 3rd, in which case the next horse counts as finishing 5th
Col. L - finishing distance rounded to nearest 0.1. For the first horse this is always a positive number, from 0.1 upwards. For all other runners it is a negative number representing the distance behind the winner (NOT, except for the second horse, the distance behind the horse immediately in front.) Thus a horse finishing sixth, beaten 9 lengths, would be shown as -9.0. The Post site gives some distances in words not numbers. A neck (nk) counts as 0.25, a head (hd) as 0.1, a short head (shd) or nose (nse) as 0.0, EXCEPT where the second was beaten a nose or a short head, when it counts as 0.1. (Thus in a four horse race where the second finished a nose behind the winner, the third a neck behind the second, and the fourth a length behind the third, the col. L entries would be 0.1, -0.1, -0.3 (not -0.4, as the nose or short head only counts as 0.1 when it is the second behind the winner, otherwise it is ignored) and -1.3.)
Cols. M, N and O left blank.
Col. P - odds expressed to nearest 0.1. Usually the odds are whole numbers, eg 6.0. But some are shown in the Post as fractions, eg 11/4, which is 2.75 rounded to 2.8.
For this project we are inviting bids for extracting the relevant data for 40 races likely to involve between 400 and 450 horses (a list of dates and times of which will be sent to the successful bidder and cover the period 30 April to 3 May). But we hope that bidders will be interested in regular work of the same kind.
We are happy to clarify anything above which is not clear.
I am an Engineering undergraduate with great computer and English skills. So this is very easy task and you won't regret selecting me. I can do this for you for very low cost.
Hope to work with you. Thank you.
Please check PMB for more details
sir I am interested in your project. I always have a team of numbers of people, So if you please give us this we will helped. my team is working data entry from many days. Finally I am from bangladesh.
Hi,
I CAN PROVIDE YOU APPLICATION (IN EXCEL) THAT CAN FETCH ALL THE DATA AND SINCE THAT WOULD BE AN APPLICATION, YOU CAN GET UPDATED AT ANY TIME FROM THE SITE.
Thanks and Regards,
Sumeet.
Hi
I am interseted in this project and would be pleased to have long term buisness relationship provided i am given a chance to do so.I have gone through the project details and file you attached along with and think that i can do it efficiently within specified time limit. The time limit mentioned in the bid is the maximum ,future work can be completed in short time as my work hours are flexible . Efficiency and punctuality will remain by top priority. I hope you put your faith in me and award me with this project.
