This project relates to using motion capture cameras to control drone flight.

- The first section of the flight path is within close range and requires a moderately high degree of accuracy - sufficient to execute some basic flight moves such as a slow semi-circle. I suggest the use of motion capture cameras to be able to steer the drone in 3 dimensions within this near-range space. Ideally this space should be around 10-15 wide, 5m deep and 5m high. As the cost of the system is important, the minimum number of motion capture cameras would be ideal. I am hoping to have motion capture cameras mainly on one side rather in a cube formation.

One alternative method could be using a camera onboard the drone with several identifiable markers on the ground (albeit perhaps above ground height) with the drone using these to identify it's position.

- The second section of the path is over a longer range but requires less accuracy. For this I suggest using a GPS waypoint or series of GPS waypoints. It might involve the drone flying out 100m to 100m altitude.

There should be 2 parts to this project:

1. Research & overall design - selection of motion capture cameras , any software that needs to be purchased, hardware to run the algorithms on. This should be a word doc with estimated costs, size of motion capture zone, approx. accuracy, etc.

2. Development and testing of the system - to a fully working state. The end software should

I was intending to use an existing drone such as DJI Phantom 3 or 3dRobotics or perhaps other based on PixHawk controller. These are either open source or have SDK's.

Both the cost of the motion capture cameras and any required software/hardware for them to function should ideally be less than $15k if choosing this path. The use of battery power onboard the drone should be as minimal as possible if using an onboard vision method.

Project timeframe: ideally 2-4 weeks for stage 1 (research and design document) and 2-4 months for stage 2 (development and testing).
