Design a Logo for 'Save the Orange-bellied Parrot'

The Orange-bellied Parrot is a small parrot native to Australia. It is unique in that it is one of only two parrot species that migrate, making its home in the southern Australian state of Tasmania in the summer and flying up to 600 km to mainland Australian states Victoria and South Australia in the winter.
It is currently critically endangered, numbering only around 70 in the wild. 'Save the Orange-bellied Parrot' is a campaign to raise public awareness of this species, operating from a Facebook Page and a Twitter account (@neophema99).
We want our logo to be a graphic image that is instantly recognisable and conveys our message simply. It should be usable on a wide variety of media, including on a website, brochures, postcards, stationery (letterheads, business cards) and promotional merchandise such as t-shirts, tea towels and shopping bags. These will be used to raise awareness and raise funds for conservation of the birds.
We want a one or two-colour logo that suggests the following concepts:
beauty
flight
speed
stamina
perseverance and tenacity
scarcity
colourful
vulnerable
This is a challenging task as the Orange-bellied Parrot is so colourful. Examples are given of conservation campaign logos for the Kakapo and the Tasmanian Devil, which use only two colours on a transparent background. We don't want a portrait of the bird; rather, we want to emphasise its vulnerability, speed and beauty.
We'd prefer the logo to be based on a white/transparent background. But another background colour might work well.
We need several types of files to suit the various formats (will provide details).
This is a chance to help one of the world's most vulnerable species. The Orange-bellied Parrot may go extinct within the next five years unless urgent action is taken. A great logo design could help prevent that.
