I am a long time fan of Edward R. Tufte, the godfather of data visualization. His books _Envisioning Information_ and _Visual Explanations_ are packed with insights that could be very applicable to your area. For example; visually emphasizing the unexpected or exceptional rather than cluttering the design with a uniform presentation of all the data. At it's most aggressive this design pattern would simply not show data that is within the expected range and only highlight that which is 'too high' and 'too low'. I come from a background constructing web applications supporting bank & corporate interactions so I have long experience working with business experts to identify key data and settle on an effective presentation. why 21 days? it seems long enough to do some iterations, your spec is a little open ended so this is really just a guess. I'm keen to have more detail on your dashboard requirements. Are you able to share any existing designs, along with your perceptions of their weaknesses and thoughts about improving them.
