Basically Mobile App should be fast in data rendering and data submission and should be asynchronous in nature. Best way to achieve this in current context is to enable REST based services which handles the basic crud operation performed from the mobile client and the data format should be JSON or XM , Prefrebally JSON since lot of JSON parsing APIs and adapter available which can adopt the data to model easily and increase the UI performance. I am Experienced building Rest/SOAP web services for android and iOS mobile development using JERSEY and J2ee web service.
