Detecting a Direct3D enabled video card

I am looking for C++ code that will detect if the machine it is running on has a Graphic card that is capable of running in Direct3D mode. The code must not crash regardless of what, if any, version of DirectX is installed on the machine. Code to work on all versions of Windows from Win95 and greater. ## Deliverables Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.
