Bespoke joomla photo gallery

I need a Joomla extension of a stand alone piece of code that will be "wrapped" in? Joomla that will behave? like? <[login to view URL]>. I want to be able to? upload images? with width 600px and non standart height, and their thumbnails with width 190~200px and arbitary? height, in directories that could be structured? (if? this would? make coding simpler) with year? at the top level, month in the second level, and day on the final level. In the final? (day) level I will upload the photos and the thumbnails. The visitor must view the present day when opening the galery and be able to visit past days with some kind of user interface (maybe one like on the above page). When the user clicks on an image I want the big version of the image to open in a new window whick I will customize. (Open the new window passing the name of the big cover as a parameter). In the sample page stated above, under each newspaper cover, the user has the option to see same day past year covers of the same newspaper. This feature doesn't have to be implemented. Any other way of coding that would allow a better result is wellcome.
