Consultation for Version Control (Web Development)

I need someone to spend about an hour with me covering version control. I'm leaning towards Mercurial and require the following:

1. General overview of best practices/standards for implementing version control for Web Development (Scale of small Web Development Company).

2. Implementing said practices/standards.
