Quality of Service (QoS) is becoming a major focus of in networking applications, where the performance of network devices, and services need to be assessed for critical factors, such as bandwidth, latency, CPU utilisation, memory consumption and so on. In the scenario for this coursework you are an employee of a new company that wants to create testing software which evaluates the performance of network systems. The company wishes to use the Microsoft .NET environment. You must produce a report and a prototype application. The first part of the report should outline the methodology chosen to evaluate the performance of a Web Server. It should detail the tools, or components, that the prototype application will use, the design of your prototype, and an explanation of the proposed experimental set-up and data. You must then implement the prototype and carry out the experiments that you have defined in the report. This may involve creating one or more pieces of software. It is expected that the prototype application will integrate existing performance measuring tools, or performance measuring components of your own creation. A Web Server will be provided for you to install on one of the lab pcs (using IIS) which will allow you to carry out performance testing. You will be provided with an application that is capable of making a number of connections to the web server. This should be run at the same time as your prototype application as part of your performance testing methodology. The second part of the report should describe the implementation and testing of your prototype application. It should then report and analyse the results of your web server performance measuring experiments. Finally, the report should provide a critical appraisal of the results obtained. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased.
