Customisation of Wordpress Theme

I have an Omeka-powered ([url removed, login to view]) website at [url removed, login to view] . I would like to tweak a Wordpress blog theme to match the rest of the site so that it looks seamless. The current one is a bit of a "hack job" and it has lost widget functionality etc. I would like widgets to appear in the left-hand column (tag cloud, archives, counter etc.), the posts to be "tidied up," and the fonts to be fixed up etc.

This website is part of a student project and although my budget may be small, I will be referring to this website at conferences, in journal articles and in my dissertation. I am more than happy to attribute any work and provide link love.
