Word Count: 1500 words 10-15 References Harvard referencing. This project requires you to individually construct a SWOT analysis of a media business of your own choosing. For the purposes of this project a media business is defined as one that produces a media product or service as its primary output and includes artifacts such as films, television programs, games, advertisements and media-focused apps. Suitable companies include Time-Warner, Rockstar Games, Electronic Arts, Fairfax Ltd, Bertelsmann, B Sky B, Comcast, Disney, Fuji Media, The DirectTV Group, Village Roadshow, Netflix, Nova, Leo Burnett, M&C Saatchi etc (preferably a US or Australian Media company).. The business could be large or small, but in each case students are required write on the following aspects: Introduction: In this section you will briefly outline the history of the company, and explain its position in terms of the market in which it operates. Is it a leader? Is it a newcomer? Why is it significant? What makes it special? Strengths: In this section you will describe the company’s main strengths, which could be personnel, market position, licenses, assets or a range of other factors. Weaknesses: Here you will describe the main weaknesses of the company, which could be its business model, its operational costs, its ability to respond to market conditions, its corporate culture or a range of other factors. Threats: Here you will attempt to identify the main threats facing their chosen company. In most cases these will come from external sources such as growing competition or changing market conditions. In many cases these will be from the four key drivers of the unit: Digitisation, Personalisation, Globalisation and Mobilisation and these should be focused on where appropriate. Opportunities: In this section you will attempt to identify some of the main opportunities that exist for the company. As with the Threats section, many of the opportunities will come from the four key concepts of the unit: Digitisation, Personalisation, Globalisation and Mobilisation and these should be focused on where appropriate. Strategic Recommendation: Based on the research conducted for this assignment, you are to outline a brief recommendation as to how the company might place itself in the best strategic position with respect to its competitors. it is important that information be obtained from appropriate sources, such as company websites, industry reports, trade journals, media reports and academic articles. Most importantly, this is a data driven assignment, so all claims must be clearly supported by evidence. All sourced material must be referenced in the Harvard style.
