Birdland New York was known for being Charlie Parker’s resident Jazz club in the 1950s, and of course, his namesake. In addition to Bird, the club has been home to many famous Jazz musicians since its opening in 1949. As Alan Morrison, the long time editor of Ebony Magazine, put it, “Birdland was both a cultural vantage point and a barometer of trends where all the big names in jazz performed”. The club closed its doors in 1965, then reopened in its current location in 1986, and has since regained its place as the Jazz Corner of the World. Melbourne is very proud to be the first of Birdland’s ventures outside of the United States. Bird’s Basement opened in March 2016 and promises to be a stage of past, present, and future jazz legends.
There are 2 shows per night on most nights. An early dinner show and a late supper show.
Tickets are sold directly through our website ticketing system, or via 1300 BBJAZZ.
We are looking for creative people to bid in for this job. We will only take into consideration proposals that include creative ideas that will make Bird's Basement become an icon in Melbourne.
We are looking for creative and copywriting and we will pay the fair amount if you come up with a brilliant idea for a campaign.
