I have a database schema which has many redundant tables for the same data, with the same columns (fields) in each one. Each table represents measurements for a particular location at one time, e.g. hourly. The columns (fields of measurement) are the same and most are just numbers. Currently each "Site" (location) has own table, with the same columns as the other sites. I would like these combined into one table with a 'site' column that is a foreign key to the list of (about 30) sites. The SITE table exists already. It would be good if this is a script (bash, PL/SQL etc) that can be run at any time on a Linux box. To bid on this, I would like to know roughly which technique you are thinking of using and which language. I will show you the schema. Please include the word 'schmozza' in your bid so I know you have read this. I can also send you a database dump (about 700mb) or a VMware image which contains Oracle (about 12GB). I would like you to understand how to transfer and sync large files using UNIX and SSH.

First of all: schmozza I have 2y experience working with Oracle as a database administrator. After quiting I started on webdevelopment, but I've been always been responsible for the databases of the systems I worked on. My plan is to create a stored procedure to perform the task so if the idea is to run this script regularly, we can schedule it on Oracle's scheduler without the need of 3rd part scripts. The requested task (schmozza) can be done with PL/SQL and Unix bash scripting. But the best approach will be bash scripting. There is not need to provide a whole dump of data . you can only provide table structures which you can extract by export commadn with data=n option. With the help of bash scripting we can generate a log file to check the operational consistancy of required task.

I understood that your scope is to reduce the redundent data. So please send me dump to verify. Method: 1. create master table with site column to connect each table. 2. Create backup table for storage 3. remove reduent data from all table. 4. Make it regularize and prepare DML script 5. Create DDL script to insert exist data

As your information, If you have one site can connect to all site. we can get data directly by PL/SQL or SQL Loader to import data to target table or using Materialized View. If not, we need to discuss How to load data from source to target site? before design and develop as your request later.
