I understand that you are looking for an off the shelf generator to be used with the turbine, we need to do a simulation to get the best possible output from the smallest turbine that will turn out to be very beneficial in this development as calculation/approximation of size of generator will not be a ideal solution. I work in Hydro turbine design typically large 50MW up to 340MW, and since my job is in a Hydro turbine Test Laboratory, a work dally with around 60KW 400mm diameter hydro turbines (Francis, Kaplan, Pelton, Archimedes screw). Do you have a particular turbine in mind? If or will work I suggest to scrap gearbox, Synchronous motor/generator with speed control would be better or maybe even an asynchronous motor which is inexpensive and doesn't need speed control.
