I am a teacher assistant at electronics and communication department. I did many projects in analog and digital circuit design and implemented PCB layout(see my portofolio). Firstly, You don't need two arduinos, one will work just fine. Why don't you use a wireless communication module instead of a cable, if you have (or can buy easily) a HC-05 or an esp8266 I will include a simple android app for the communication for free What driver do you plan to drive the stepper with? a L298N? Is more torque important for the steppers in their application or you don't care about torque (at least for now)? Pls provide answers to those questions and I will start work right away....
