I am excited by this project's mission to nurture students at the frontier of their education and feel I can be an asset to the development of the animation. I have volunteer experience in arts administration at the South Haven Center for the Arts where I worked as an office aid, gallery attendant and youth arts assistant. I am a recent graduate of the BFA program at Carnegie Mellon University, with a concentration in painting and animation. An important aspect of my practice is to facilitate socially engaged projects. I initiated a mural project at a local library after spending time there with my three sibling who are all under the age of twelve. The children’s section appeared underwhelming for kids, so I sent a proposal to the library’s Board of Directors to approve the idea. Once the proposal was accepted, I encouraged children and teens within the community to participate in the creation of the mural. After depicting my initial sketch on the wall, I directed community participants to paint within the composition. In overseeing the development of this project, I strengthened my project-management, interpersonal and leadership skills. The children’s section was transformed from a cinder block wall into a space more conducive to learning and the fostering of imagination.
