Joomla Admin Bugfix

Using Joomla 1.5.7 and certain features not displaying in Admin template. These include checkboxes for Article Manager and other sections, and Menu Manager items not listed.

Joomla installation is on a shared Linux server, PHP 5.3.8, which is therefore not downgradable. Would like a solution to fix admin menu bugs above.
