[login to view URL] offers an API for downloading historical stock market data. Your job is to write a script that downloads all historical price data of approximately 3000 stocks into a MySQL table on my Linux (Ubuntu) PC and updates it daily. You may use HTML, XML, PHP or any other suitable and widely used programming language. Please state the languages you are planning to use in your bid, or I will not accept it. I put a premium on common languages and simplicity! The MySQL table is to contain the following columns: Ticker of stock Date Open High Low Close Volume Ex-Dividend Split Ratio Adj. Open Adj. High Adj. Low Adj. Close Adj. Volume I will be able to spot errors in the data, but I will not be able to help you correct erroneous code. The code must include clear comments that make it easy for any developer to correct or expand upon the code independently. However, the SQL database to which you will import the data contains only one table with all stocks. Also note that there are two distinct parts of the job: First, you must create a database of all currently existing historical data. Then, you must also write a script that appends newly generated data every day. These tasks may be done with two separate pieces of code or with a single piece of code, whichever you think is more efficient. Good luck bidding!

Hi, I've done similar project with bigcommerce api, it gets all the orders for the day, etc.. I can create a php script which be can scheduled to run in the background and get all the data and store in your database. I' m based here in oxford, I can call or do a skype chat. I would normally use Perl for automating a job like this (despite Quandl not having existing libraries), but I can do it in PHP if that is your language of choice. I would do this as one script. First the script would check if there is any existing data in the MySQL database. If there is no data (or if the table doesn't even exist), then it would create the table if necessary, grab all existing historical data from Quandl and insert into MySQL. If data already exists, it would pick up from where it left off by checking the date/time of the most recent record in the MySQL table and continuing from there. Doing it this way will ensure that if your database failed (and needed to be recreated) or if you needed to move the script to another computer then refilling the historical data and continued daily updates would be handled automatically via a single script. If your computer is off for a while, then the script would automatically pick up from where it left off and fill in the missing data points.
