I have a large Excel file that collects data from users by having them fill in drop-downs, click radio buttons, fill in a few dozen boxes, etc. The spreadsheet collects the data into a text file, which is then uploaded, by a macro, to my web site where it is automatically processed. I would like suggestions on the best way to convert this to a web based application which will have the same functionality, ie: collect the data a send it to a different web location. Please suggest how you would proceed and what rate you would expect for hourly work.
Hello to all the respondents. My experience with this process is that we can all save a lot of trouble by me being extremely clear about what it is that I am actually trying to achieve. I have limited knowledge beyond my own specialty, so I am taking my time and study the proposals and to make sure we are all on the same page. I am getting the impression that respondents see this as a database exercise more than anything; it is not. The excel spreadsheet has a high degree of functionality, including many macros. I am exploring the idea of placing the sheet in Microsoft OneDrive (or some other cloud site) and essentially replacing the macro functionality with PHP &/or something similar. The client facing web page would gather data and then call/open the spreadsheet and place the data upon it; it would then return feedback back to the user. The website would need to be able to control the spreadsheet by, at the very least, switching calculations on and off. There would actually be several steps and a few different spreadsheets involved.
