Have the need to migrate an existing on-premise Dynamics 365 for sales DB (SQL) to Dynamics 365 for sales online. The existing on-premise will remain in production following the migration to the new online CRM. One of the partners left the company who is hosting the on-premise 365 CRM and he needs to setup his own but wants to import all of the data from the on-premise to avoid having to recreate his own DB. I've spoken to the IT admin who is managing the existing on-premise Dynamics 365 DB and he mentioned that he could provide us a backed up copy of the on premise database instance so that we could import or restore to the new Dynamics 365 online portal. The SQL Database size is 700MB in size. I'm not sure how to best do this migration but would like a quote for estimated number of hours and hourly rate. Keep in mind that we can provide full login access to the new online Dynamics 365 portal as well as send you the backup copy of the DB that needs to be migrated. This will require knowledge of Dynamics 365 on-premise to online migration.

Hi, I have worked with on premise and online so I may well be able to be off assistance. The first thing to note is there is no database access to dynamics online so that causes issues. The normal way to migrate would be to change the subscription of your on premise and that would allow you to migrate but I see this isn't possible. Is the data contacts, accounts leads etc? If so then you may well be able to use the data import tool to bring that data in. It still may mean some work to restore and export the other data from the database but it would work. If you have a lot of custom entities then you might need something like SCRIBE that helps write the data through the CRM API. If its mainly accounts, contacts etc then I can probably help you but its worth discussing further. Any hope that helps some. Stephen
