HI, I'm a senior .NET programmer in Australia with 20 years experience in software development for Windows. Your project sounds interesting. I'll be up front, I could put something together to run on all modern versions of Windows. It would not be a GUI for terra term, but a WPF/WInforms app that has build in serial port communication capabilities so it talk directly to your device. However, i have little experience developing for Mac, but i own a Macbook, and am confident i could make that happen in a slighly longer timeframe. I have done some basic IOS development using Xamarin which is the same technoolgy required to develop for macOS. I have a lot of experience communicating to serial devices, from barcode scanners to EFT terminals. My only initial question is how do you currently determine the state of the dip switches via the serial port? is there a command you can issue to the device that retuns the state of the switches (the configuration)? The interface could either use spin buttons (up/down arrows alongside a numeric field), sliders (slide the scale to increase the value), or dials i guess (turn up the dial to increase the value) depending on the nature of the device. Since I have written software with very similar features in the past (communication with a device using ASCII commands over a serial port), I am very confident that I can get what you need done. It wouldn't be too much trouble to use .NET on the Windows side and Cocoa on the Mac side. Both have convenient APIs for serial communication. That way you get the native look and feel on both systems. I have some questions about the format (baud rate, stop bits, parity, etc.) and how the DIP switch configuration would be read into the system when the application starts. Is it just another ASCII command?
