Cultural Events Calendar Website

General introduction on the project:

This website is a calendar of cultural events. The users can find information on the events and can check what events are happening on a specific date.

The project is about building the online website and an online administration tool that will give me control on the content of the website.

In other words, I want to change the content of the website (pictures and text) exclusively from the administration tool.

Once the changes are done from the admin, they will update automatically on the online website.

General introduction on the project:

The administration tool has to control the content in the following sections:

---Section A: Slide show pictures---

This section will have several pictures that will roll after each other like slides. When a user clicks on a picture he is taken to a hyperlink specific to that event.

More info: Number of pictures x4; Pictures changes after 4 seconds; User can switch manually from one picture slide to another.

From the administration tool I should be able to change 1. the slide pictures and 2. the hyperlink each picture follows

---Section B: Flipping Calendar---

This section is a calendar of the next seven days and the cultural events happening in them. It displays this information in columns and the user can flip from one day to the next.

The events of a particular day are displayed according to their category.

Example: A rolling stones concert is displayed under the 'Music' category and heading.

More info: maximum number of events displayed per category x3; when a user clicks on an event (like the rolling stones concert) he is taken to that event's webpage; for each category a 'more events' link is displayed under the last event and this takes you to a webpage with more events of that particular category;

---Section C: Static Calendar---

A traditional style calendar where the user can click on a date to see all the

events happening on that particular day, divided according to category.

More info: user can flip to the next month's calendar; dates where there are no events happening are grayed out on the calendar;

---Section D: News Section---

This section displays news items.

The news items are displayed with a thumbnail picture on top and the news item underneath it.

Example can be seen at: [url removed, login to view] (These are the four news items

displayed horizontally in the 'Today' section. I need the same but to be vertically displayed.)

More info: In this section only the first few words of the headline are displayed; user can then click on a news item and go to that news events webpage; Users can scroll down to see more news items;

The admin section has to control the thumbnail of the news, which first few words of the headline are displayed and the hyperlink where each news item goes to.

---Section E: Website map---

This section is like a website map featuring a number of categories and several

subcategory links beneath them. From the admin section I have to change and control 1. The category name; 2. The subcateogory links under that category; 3. The hyperlinks of the different subcategories

More info: Seven categories are necessary. Subcategories will ideally be unlimited.

---Section F: Head Banner---

This section will carry the logo of the website. The possibility to insert a flash animation is also necessary.

---Section G: Navigation Menu

This menu will be devided in different sections with hyperlinks that navigate to the respective sections. From the admin I need to be able to control the 1. Name of the sections; 2. The hyperlinks to them.

---Section H: Events in Category filter---

This section will let the user chose a particular category (example: theatre) and it will take him to a webpage with a list of all the available events classified as a theatre events.

More information:

1.A number of templates forms need to be created. These will be on the admin side and will then generate separate webpages once I enter all the necessary information.

Templates are needed to add an: event; location; artist; general information page; news item; etc

The list of templates necessary here is not exhaustive but will not be more than ten in total.

More info: The details of what fields are needed for each particular template can be forwarded upon request. The webpages created will have the information entered in templates forms. More information on how these webpages will look like can be forwarded upon request.

[url removed, login to view] a user reaches an event webpage, there has to be the possibility to send that event by email; to share that event on facebook and twitter; to suggest that event to a friend;

From the admin side: it has to be possible to add links to youtube videos; add other related hyperlinks. Thumbnails for these links need to subsequently appear on that event's webpage.

3. A sub homepage needs to be created for each category.

Example there need to be one for theatre; one for music; one for festivals etc.

This list is not complete but there will be not more than ten sub homepages.

More info: The sub homepages will all use the same template. Additionally they need to host the lists of events generated from Section H. (see above).

More info on the sub homepages templates can be forwarded upon request but will basically include a picture section and a text section plus a section to accommodate Section H.

Such events will have to be distinguished from other events. Example of these long term running events can be exhibitions that are open for a number of months.

Such events will have to appear differently in section B, H and C at least.

Details on this are still being finalized.
