I'm looking to create a forum directory using the IndexU directory script (source:[url removed, login to view]). I'd like to include additional fields in the database to show the # of posts, # of threads, and # of members for each forum listed. This is currently being done at big - boards .com .
I'm not exactly positive how this is accomplished but I think it is done with a web crawler that visits and indexes the main forum page then parses the appropriate information and inserts it into the database.
The scope of this job is to:
-Create a script that will parse all listed forum sites and insert the # of posts, # of threads and # of member information for each site listed and dump them into seperate database fields so that the information can be displayed on the IndexU directory for each listing.
I'd like to script to be so that I can automate it on a scheduled basis preferrably via cron job.
