In the article: [login to view URL] attack and defence values are derived from expected goals using gaussian (least squares) method and I would like to know the methodology behind this. I would like this reproduced in excel so that I can modify expected goals values and output my own attack and defence [login to view URL] will need to use the implied and goals model packages from the article.
The attached image shows the part of the article I'm particularly interested in. I need to know and be able to reproduce the method used to get from expected/observed goals to these ratings using excel.
