CFD modelling of premixed flame propagation in SI engine cylinder.
Aim
The main aim of the project is to study the turbulent premixed flame propagation of SI engine cylinder using Star CCM+.
Objectives
• To learn how to use Star CCM+ software and develop the models required.
• To develop a CFD model of propagation of spark initiated turbulent flame in a disc.
• To study the effect of turbulence on the flame propagation.
• To develop a CFD model of spark initiated spark initiated turbulent flame in a pent roof engine chamber.
• To simulate the flame propagation for center and off center location of the spark using CFD or Star CCM+.

1) Literature review - Interim Report
a) 9 to 15 pages
b) Includes figures
c) Completed review of the relevant literature
d) Good presentation
e) Readability and language usage
f) Critical discussion / analysis of literature
g) Completeness – scope
h) Referencing style
i) Correctness in conclusions
2) Gantt Chart
a) 1 page
b) Gantt chart for the whole project, updated to January. i.e. tasks completed etc.
c) Good presentation.
d) Sensible plan that links to objectives
e) Clear progression
f) Correct links (i.e. between concurrent tasks / sequential tasks)
g) Shows updated information such as changes and tasks completed
3) Project plan
a) 1 page
b) Written description of the tasks to be performed referencing the Gantt chart.
c) Good presentation
d) Readability
e) Sensibility
4) Project risk assessment
a) 1 page
b) An assessment of the risks in the project, likelihood and how they will be mitigated. This is NOT a health and safety risk assessment.

5) Progress to date
a) 1 to 1.5 pages
b) Includes figures
c) A description, including at least one Figure if possible, of progress to date. This may include initial results. Should reference back to Gantt chart.

b) An explanation of the results or other progress to date.

b) A list of all the references used in the report using a suitable referencing style. i.e. Harvard OR numerical.
