Automated Image Gallery viewer with event logging

Please read this project detail fully. It is NOT a standard image gallery viewer script.

Objective:

I need a web browser script that displays an automated slideshow of jpegs. The script should reference only one specific local (on the web server) folder and create a slideshow based on the contents of that folder. Once the main html page is loaded, it will operate in a hands free mode. The script should be able to dynamically update itself on a pre-defined frequency. It should also be able to update an event log to increment the count of when each image has individually been displayed. When displaying the image, EXIF data (if present) should be displayed as text below the image. The specific EXIF properties to display: Title, Keywords, and Comments.

When refreshing the list of the folder’s contents, it will add entries of new images found and flag entries of images no longer present. The application will prioritize newest added images (thus over time, all images have been displayed an equal number of times). If the web page is closed and re-opened, the log should not be lost. There may be multiple (up to 10) instances of this web page loaded simultaneously (but not by the same client machine). Each instance (from separate physical devices) should be able to view and modify the master list of displayed files. If needed, instead of local flat files, MySql will be installed on hosting server.

The jpegs of the containing folder will be large, so the script should be able to dynamically downsize the images to a specified size for display (without affecting the original image). The application will have variables as to the max height and max width of the image. When reducing the image size, the aspect ratio must NOT be changed and NO cropping/clipping must occur.

I only need a simple transition between images: fade out to background color and then fade in.

Compatibility:

The hosting server will be a Windows operating system using latest Apache and MySql instances. Script must be HTML/CSS compliant. Clients will be latest versions of IE, Foxfire, Chrome, and Safari. Images will ONLY be jpeg format (8bit, sRGB). All programming should be done with open source scripting languages and tools. Where possible, off-the-shelf and pre-developed coding should be used to reduce cost but note that all copyright usage terms must be adhered to.

Variables:

Dynamic variables that will be needed to control the script (note, additional variables can be added by programmer if needed):

1) Relative location of folder containing the images

2) Refresh Frequency: How long (in minutes or seconds) should the script wait to update its list

3) Image display frequency: How long will each image be displayed before the next image is shown.

4) Image max height: the maximum height (in pixels) of the displayed image

5) Image max length: the maximum length (in pixels) of the displayed image

6) Background color: the color of the background: Grey, Black, White and if possible Transparent.

Event Log File contents:

The event log should have the following content (note, additional informational fields can be added by programmer if needed):

1) Filename: filename of image (this will be unique, no two images will have same file name)

2) Status: “Active” or “Deleted.” Deleted indicating that the file is no longer present.

3) Timestamp Added: when the image was added to the list

4) Timestamp Status Change: when did the status change from active to deleted

5) Display count: incremental counter of how many times the image has been displayed.

Hosting/Testing:

I can provide access to my internet hosting (via GoDaddy) site for application development and testing. If needed, I can create SQL databases and grant admin right to developer with admin rights to modify. If development is done on programmer’s hosting site, I will need specific instructions on installation and configuration of
