I have existing HTML, CSS, and images for a simple page. The background image file is to large in terms of MB for download.
Tasks:
1. I want the image to be resized into a few options to support different screen resolutions such that the smallest file appropriate for screen at time of page load to make the page load more quickly and still use the full resolution of the screen
2. The background image is a large panorama, I want the image to be centered in the browser and to remain centered when the browser is resized.
3. I always want the background image to cover the whole visible area, but it can be clipped on the sides.
4. When the browser is resized to be larger, I never want the background image to stretch.
5. When the browser is resized to be large and would have to be stretched to cover, I want a different size image to be loaded that will not have to be stretched to cover and the transition is invisible to the user.
6. When the browser window is resized to be smaller than the original page load, no new image needs to be loaded
7. When the orientation is flipped on a mobile devise, the background image remains centered and sized appropriately and the content of the page is displayed optimally.
8: Use BEM standard for naming of CSS styles.
BONUS: Clean up non-optimal CSS/HTML
