The employer is looking for an experienced software developer to build a web-app that scrapes the web for information regarding activities in a certain area (city/town) that are under the given budget for a specific number of people. We will start with scraping activities for one city: Vancouver and when successfully completed, we can move to add more cities.
The core features of the web-app are:
- A user authentication system (Login/account management/account specific data)
- A database that stores the user information and uses previous search history for displaying more personalized search results in the future
- A search function that takes in budget, allocated time, interests, the area information to provide appropriate results and # of people
- A backend that will scrape the web and display the activities the user can take part in provided it matches the search criteria
- The websites that need to be scraped will be provided
- A clean and easy to use front-end for the users/investors to demo the application
- API implementation (Foursquare API): Show attractions nearby set location
The word activity can mean a wide range of things. It could be a hotel stay, a museum trip, a skiing experience or a special activity that exists only in a certain city. Will be further explained by the employer. (This is the most important part of the algorithm that will drive the web app)
The web app is being developed as an MVP (Minimum Viable Product), therefore the algorithm is the main concern of the employer.
Example scenario: What can I do with a $100 budget with 2 people in 4hrs allocating 1hr for travel, in the city of Vancouver and my chosen interest is sports?
The app would provide results such as ice-skating, bowling alley, cycling activities and similar results. The activities will have to be stringed together with the modes of transport that can be used to match the amount of time mentioned by the user.
