Programme LED lights to sync with audio

I need help to programme LED lights to sync with the audio that is playing. When the first audio plays, LED light 1 and 2 will light up. When the next audio plays, LED light 1 and 2 will stop lighting and LED light 3 and 4 will light up and so on. This is for an art installation. So I need about 40 small LED lights to be programmed to sync with 20 audio clips. This needs to work on a loop.

Hi, what kind of equipment is being used exactly? Is this just for coding the algorithm to control lights on an established system, or does everything have to be built from scratch?
