Save Form Data to DB using AJAX

The page currently uses PHP to show/hide elements and save data to a mySQL DB.
We'd like this to use AJAX.
This is how it needs to work:
If "p" is not defined in the URL, then the user is asked to enter their email address, name, and then select a plan, before being redirected to another page. Once they enter their email address, save their email address and name in the DB. If they select a plan, then save that plan against their record in the DB before redirecting them.
If "p" is defined in the URL (try it, put ?p=monthly_55 on the URL), then the user is asked to enter their email address and name, before being redirected to another page. Once they enter their email address their email address and name are saved in the DB. This is currently working but is using PHP and header redirects. It needs to use AJAX to save and then redirect.
I can provide the current files.
I can also provide some example AJAX files if that is useful. This was sort of working but I cannot finish it.
I can't provide FTP, cPanel, or DB access. Please use your own facilities to dev and test it. I will need to receive the code and test it on my server before signing off / completing the project.
