We have an intranet ASP.net application written in C#.
Overview of our needs (2 use cases):
Use case 1
1. From a button click in our application, update an existing Excel spreadsheet ([url removed, login to view]) - this Excel file resides on the webserver *note: the Excel file contains macros
2. Take data from the application (either from the MS SQL Database, or hard coded values from C# code) and put this data into specific cells in the Excel spreadsheet ([url removed, login to view])
3. Once the Excel spreadsheet ([url removed, login to view]) has been updated, allow the user to open the Excel spreadsheet ([url removed, login to view]) through their browser (or save the Excel file ([url removed, login to view]) through the browser onto their machine)
Use case 2
1. From a button click in our application, update an existing Excel spreadsheet ([url removed, login to view]) - this Excel file resides on the webserver *note: the Excel file contains macros. Updating the Excel file
2. Take data from the application (either from the MS SQL Database, or hard coded values from C# code) and put this data into specific cells in the Excel spreadsheet ([url removed, login to view])
3. Once the Excel spreadsheet ([url removed, login to view]) has been updated, create a PDF file ([url removed, login to view]) with all the data from this Excel spreadsheet, and allow the user to open the PDF file ([url removed, login to view]) through their browser (or save the PDF file ([url removed, login to view]) through the browser onto their machine). The PDF needs to be compatible, and work (open and readable), with the latest available reader from Adobe... [url removed, login to view]
If you can use an open source tool to create the PDF, that is great. If there are any 3rd party components, please let me know that in your bid.
