Help me fix my broken MySQL on my server

Long story short, I was trying to upgrade MySQL from 5.5 to 5.7, and I messed things up and I think reinstalled a fresh copy of sql, losing access to all the DBs. I backed up the var/lib/sql folder so I have all the information, but I can't get MySQL back up. I need some professional help.
Server is running CentOS 6
