We need a program written that will allow a user to record from the microphone on their PC.
The user will do this:
1. Open the software.
2. Locate an audio file on their PC or through a web service.
? I will provide a web service that will list genres. Once a Genre is selected you should display all songs in the genre. This should be in 2 drop downs (Genre, Songs) If the user chooses to download a song you will download the song to the local machine and open it. Other wise the user will locate the file on the PC. This could be mp3, wma, etc. Open the file and display it like you would see in sound forge or something similar. We will NOT allow editing of this file. it will only appear on the timeline.
3. Record the input of the microphone? while the audio file plays.
The audio file will more than likely be a soundtrack.
4. Allow the user to adjust the volume of the two audio tracks
5. Allow the user to apply VST effects to the tracks. For now we want REVERB and Basic EQ.
6. allow the user to save the files and the settings applied.
7. Allow the user to upload the song (single mp3 file) to a server I will provide.
We would like this software to run from within a web browser like an applet or activeX control. We are open to suggestions on programming languages.
Can we use Silverlight for this?

We changed the request a bit. Java is not a requirement. We do wna the application to run within a browser like an active X control or applet. Maybe Silverlight?
