Date Validation - Javascript

I need a Javascript Routine to validate a date in cold fusion.
The routine needs to do the following:
a) Validate the date is in mm/dd/yyyy format (the year must be four digits)
b) The date must be a valid date (I.e. don't just check for the day being less than 32, etc..).
c) Must be written as a generic javascript function that can be reused in other pages.
d) Must have a parameter for the message to display to the user if date is incorrect.

a) Well documented function in javascript
b) Use of the code inside of th Cold Fusion Code Below:
