I am currently a full time student, and I am looking to expand my portfolio in writing. I currently write horoscopes and Astrology based articles for my blog, and I post frequently in my school's student debate forum. Quality is very important to me, and I know it's important to you as well. Here is a sample of my academic/article writing on a topic of History, "Hammurabi's code of laws was built around the three classes of society of that time. There were nobles, commoners, and slaves and the basic meaning behind his laws was "an eye for an eye." Being a society of class, Hammurabi's codes favored Nobles or people of high class - if a crime was committed against them, an equal crime would be committed against the offender. Being a commoner - if a crime was committed against them, the offender would pay a fee. If a crime was committed against a seignior's slave, the offender would have to pay a very small fee. It also says that Hammurabi had laws for economics and family law; if a son hit his father - his hand would be cut off. This form of law doesn't seem even close to fair since the decision of punishment was pretty much decided by your class and the "eye for an eye" principal, not to mention how easily laws of this nature could be twisted to inflict unnecessary brutality on lower class people. I can see one huge advantage to this style of laws; people who know the punishments are of equal value might not want to do them. For example, if I knew that punching someone in the eye may result in the loss of mine, I would quickly reconsider my actions. I would imagine laws like this would have prevented many crimes from being committed during that time. The disadvantages outweigh the advantages. Because everyone wasn't treated the same, people of a higher class could easily get away with harming or taking advantage of lower class people. What's a small fine compared to the loss of an ear?"
