Hi there My name is Francois Swart, I'm a young graphic artist living in South Africa. I began working as a freelancer roughly 4 years ago, but I've only recently started doing it full-time through elance. I have experience doing different kinds of illustrations and designs, both digitally and traditionally, including: Logo and banner design; website design; traditional illustrations in pencil, charcoal, pen and colour pencil; digital illustration; cartoon; comics; concept art and caricatures; and I'm always wanting to try new things. An advantage of living in and working from South Africa is that I am able to charge competitively (thank you exchange rate!) without compromising on the quality of my work. I put a lot of emphasis on detail in my work and communication with my clients, that way I can ensure that we are all happy at the end of a project. Regardless of what kind of work I do, I make sure to communicate with my client often (at least at every step of a job). The typical steps when I work are: 1. I look over the brief and we discuss the job details including timeframe and pricing. 2. Once we have agreed on the above, we move onto rough ideas for the concept and style. 3. I will then put together rough sketches, usually around 3 – 5 depending on the brief. 4. Once you have chosen a rough idea (and I have adapted it if needed) I begin on a more fleshed out image. 5. I will then submit a version which is a little more complete to check that you like the style.
