Linux comes with the windows NetBios functionality if you install SAMBA. SAMBA is too large for an embedded Linux project. Microchip solved this by making their own netbios program. We need that one page program ported over to Linux C. The program must listen for netbios requests (port 137), and if its own NetBIOS name (host name) is specified it will respond with the IP address of the host it is running on.
In other words, it responds to NBNS name requests to allow human name assignment to the board.
i.e. allows nodes on the same IP subnet to use a hostname to access the board instead of an IP address.
-Reference: RFC 1002
Freelancers must be skilled with the Microchip TC/IP stack and Linux C.
Our Linux environment is 2.6.33 kernel with uClibc.
Thank you,
