Database Project

Provision 3D Media is in need of a scalable, searchable database with a front end search, retrieve, and print feature. This DB will collect records from thousands of computers daily. The database will be scalable such that at first it will receive data from only a few computers, but over the course of one year this DB will take in data from up to 100,000 computers daily. The source data is CSV records of 2 types of kiosk usage. The first is data on 3D videos that played on a computer, these data account for about 6,000 records daily. Provision calls these Holo records. The second is broken into two categories, banner and coupon data. Each day, this type of kiosk records about 45,000 data points (98% of which is banner data) and places these data into a text file, zips the results, and uploads the package to an FTP server. We need the following functionality: - A DB that fetches and unzips data from the FTP server automatically - A DB that sorts the three types of data into three different data categories (holo, coupon, banner) and outputs usable information on each - A DB front end that allows users (Provision Staff) to easily and quickly retrieve information - A DB that allows staff to generate and print professional usage reports (with provision's logo and the advertiser's logo and contact info) - A DB that will scale as we scale up to tens of thousands of computers without the need for a DBA
