Hi I have been working with MSSQL for over 15 years. I am fully experienced as a developer and a DBA. Currently I am working at big financial organization in which I am responsible for the BI department. I have designed and the Developed the Organization’s Reporting Database which has been constructed with SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition. The database is being updated daily from the core system with txt or excel files via SSIS or with direct connection at mainframe’s DB2 and a numerous of KPIS are being daily updated during the ETL. For isolation reasons the KPIS are replicated to another DB (with transactional replication) which exploits the reports via SSRS to the consumers. Some KPIS are being replicated with merged (bidirectional) replication. Also, 10 Cubes in SSAS are being daily automatically processed and the end of the ETL. Several other reports are daily automatically produced and sent via email to the recipients. Finally I have designed and developed the bank’s crm DB which is published on the intranet. The DB holds full information about the customers (Customers,Addresses , Financial Data , Contacts , campaigns , etc) and covers 4 countries. To achieve this i have made partitions over the country code. The size of the Reporting DB, is about 4TB and consists of about 4.000 objects and the replicated KPI DB is 350GB. Best Regards mpalgeo

Hello, pls. help me to clarify, as using the term "server" makes it a bit ambigous as server can mean a server machine with its own operating server or a database server instance - both terminology is used frequently. Pls. study my plans on how i'd do the work yor you: CASE 1., If there is one SERVER machine with 2 different MSSQL server instances (A and B) then i'd create a scheduled job in which i'd implement automatic restoration script (command line SQL and batch file commands). CASE 2., If there are two separate SERVER machines (A and B) each running one MsSQL server instance then i'd create the synchronization logic on server B to query server A if backup was created then automatically copy backup file to server B over LAN or NET and then using the procedure descirbed in CASE 1., would be similar. I will configure an automation of backup job and the same can be restore on the other database whenever it is required. OR if you can create another database on the same server or different server where both the LIVE and standby databases will be configured and standby database can be used for reporting and for querying purposes inturn the burden on the LIVE server will be less and can be configured to DR(Standby server) incase the LIVE server goes down. this phenomenon is called Logshipping
