Landscape Garden Design

We live 5 mins from beach. We would like to completely redesign our front garden as it’s currently out of control, very hard to maintain, not functional and curb appeal is very low. We have two kids under 5 years old so bikes, surfing & beach clutter all over the place. We have a large dog that will escape if allowed. We recently renovated the back of the house and the back garden [planting still in progress]. We tried to set up a herb garden/rockery in the front, but the weeds are out of control with a ground level garden bed. We would love the front garden to look amazing, be more functional with better use of space, low maintenance with lawn & weeding, but maintain our vision to have an edible style garden if possible. Some elements we would like to consider in our design: Paving - Maybe New plants/trees - Yes New lawn - Maybe Retaining wall - No Decking - Maybe Lighting - Yes We want to make this space more functional. Hide the ugly front of house, but without compromising light into the front room. We are open to moving the pathway to the front door if needed, but we absolutely need a fence or barrier around the boundaries so our dog can’t escape out the front door, as our kids get older and able to open the door unattended. Our vision was to have a fruit tree hedge and we have had some success with the trees, happy to take advice on this, however probably not going to grow as a hedge now! Would love to make plants edible but attractive, or hidden from view if herb garden kept [maybe a raised herb garden. We would be interested in ideas to be creative with the space for additional storage - surf boards, bikes, wood for our wood burner [this could be build on to the porch?] We are also open to a native edible tree being planted. Garden size can be provided, we have no deadline for the project but we would like the opportunity review/tweak the design before signing off. Our budget is approx $5,000 but we can be flexible as could stage landscaping if the design is more expensive but we love it. We have sandy soil, but access to compost and the front garden has good planting soil that we added to the garden beds . Edible plants & trees ideally We like: Edible, Tropical, Australian Native and would consider Asian influences.
