J2ME m-learning application

Specification for M-learning J2ME MIDlet for Award Learning Services Ltd This list aims to describe the required application in a none technical way. Technical specification will be produced by the developer in consultation with the client prior to building application. Aim: To provide development tools that can be used by content providers without scripting skills, that allows the building and distribution of variable content, standardised MIDlets that will function on the majority of Java enabled phones. The MIDlet application will comprise:  At least 2 graphical start screens  At least 2 text presentation screens at start  At least 1 graphical end screen  A Multiple choice type test with single screen for question and answer texts  Each question may have an exhibit associated with it.  The exhibit may be a graphic or additional text page.  The exhibit should be at most, one click away from the question page.  Each question will be allocated to a category.  Each category will have a description text.  Each category will have at least 4 analysis texts.  Each analysis text will be allocated to a category score range.  User will scroll down question page to select answer.  User will have option to have answer marked instantly or have all answers marked at the end of the test or at any time in the test.  Each answer will have a feedback text.  On marking an answer instantly the feedback comment will appear on the question screen, below the answer it refers to.  On marking all answers the test will be scored by percentage of questions correct and by percentage of questions correct in each category and displayed on screen.  After marking a test the user will have option to view test analysis  Test analysis will display for each category based on the score achieved per category.  After marking a test the user will have the option to view the feedback comment for each answer they selected.  On starting a test user will be able to restart a saved test or start a new test.  On starting a test user will be able to select all questions in test or a number of questions at random from the test.  During the test instructions for use will be one click away.  When returning from exhibit or instructions screens the user will be returned to the screen they were previously on.  At any time during the test the user may save the incomplete test and restart it later.  During a test user may jump to any question in the test or navigate through the test in the order of presentation.  User may select to display timer during a test. The development tools are likely to comprise:  Database of content by test, category, question, answers, feedback, analysis, analysis trigger, exhibit, e.t.c  MIDlet compiler to utilise database content.  MIDlet tester as phone emulator. Additional notes: A similar application has been developed by [login to view URL] but they are not making the development software available to content providers. GOTestGo's business model is to obtain reseller licences for third party content. Award Learning Services Ltd wishes to have greater control over the database and ownership of a MIDlet compiler. GoTesTGo utilises the Learning Management System Moodle as the database for content. Award is familiar with Moodle and would prefer to use this in the same way that GoTestGo does. As Moodle is Open source and subject to a General User Licence agreement much of the work already done by GoTestGo and documented, will be re-useable by the developers of Awards MIDlet compiler.
