Proposed Title: This does not have to be your final title. It is intended to be indicative only at this stage But it must be specific. Brief Description of Area of Investigation (500 words): Your literature review will already have helped you to define a research area and you should discuss your research ideas in more detail here. This is a general introduction to the area of your research, but it should not be the whole of your proposal: both of you wrote an essay along the lines of a general introduction to the area of study, but then did not go on to propose your own research. Research Questions (100–150 words): Following on from the general area of investigation (above) you then have to state which particular aspect of it you indend to focus on in your own research. — In other words, from the general background, you need to indicate that you are 'going to look at this specific element.' You then need to say why. So, for example, because the area has not been fully covered in the existing research — i.e. there is a research gap. And you need to give your aims and objectives: what is the main aim, what do you want to uncover in your research, etc. Methodology (750 words): This is where you say HOW you are going to do the research. What methods are you going to use, how are you going to gather your information and data: reading, analysis, observation, interviews, questionnaires, statistics, etc. etc. If observation is one of your tools, then who are you going to observe: which group? If interviews, then who will you be interviewing, etc.? Ethical Dimension of the Research – please refer to the School Ethics Form for guidance, but there is no need to reproduce it for the proposal (250 words). If you intend to work with vulnerable individual or groups, children, etc. Or if you intend to gather personal information about an individual or group you will need to follow ethical guidelines.
