Develop on Yahoo Small Business. We are starting a NONPROFIT social venture, and at this point we have $1000 to spend, and more if we become profitable. Our project plans to buy art from developing nations, make prints, and sell them to people in the US and Europe. We'll then turn around and invest the profits back into arts-related social enterprise projects in the artists community. This way, we get a multiplier effect -- invest $1 and the community might be able to generate $10. We'll also tell stories about the artist to bring context to the art. We're looking for someone who can hack php/mysql. We have $1000 dollars to spend right now, however, if the project takes off, we can pay more. If the project doesn't take off, then I guess we're all out of luck. We are currently graduate students at Harvard and MIT and none of us will be taking any money until we become profitable. We'd be GRATEFUL to have someone help us on the tech, as none of us have any skills here, just a lot of passion! Art has carried the human spirit through dark times. As a tribute to the importance of art, SAGE has developed an innovative, market-based approach to supporting artist communities the world over. This approach fulfills our mission: to protect our global cultural heritage, educate through storytelling, and fight poverty. SAGE scouts the world to find talented artists from traditional communities in developing nations, creates high-quality prints of their work, and mails these prints to our paid subscribers on a quarterly basis. We situate each piece in its relevant context by providing educational materials about the artist and the community, including multimedia such as audio and video. What’s more, we invest of our profits back to the artist, and arts-related social enterprise and community projects in the area where the artist is from. Our reinvestment strategy will be directed towards preserving cultural heritage, and fighting poverty.
