Redesign and update PHP website. (Video upload/playback component)

We are looking for someone to redesign/update an existing PHP website. The site currently houses basic, templated pages to show off various aspects of the company. It is running on a LAMP stack with a MVC framework, Symfony. The template system is Apostrophe, a Symfony plugin. You may work with our existing code or upgrade the entire system to one of your choosing. Any upgrade solutions would also have to be built on a MVC framework. Therefore, bids containing stand-alone CMS solutions, such as WordPress, will be ignored. Template systems which can be integrated with a framework are acceptable, as long as they are heavily customizable and do not rely on frequent updates, such as WordPress. The site will eventually need the ability to include large amounts of custom code, seamlessly entwined with the rest of the site and another site we own, Edghog.com. Knowledge of Symfony, or any full MVC (Mojavi, Rails, etc.) will greatly improve your bid. First off, the site needs a face-lift. We already have a few simple ideas for slices of the new site, but we desperately need someone with a strong creative side to carry us to the end. We will be modifying and adding to the existing pages on the site. In all, about 6-10 static pages. We are not looking for a "graphics guy" per-se; however, providing a portfolio of your custom created graphics (Photoshop, Gimp, Inkscape, etc.) will greatly improve your bid. In addition to the static portion, the site must be upgraded to allow administrators to create accounts for users. Once a user has an account, they will be allowed to login and access a listing of videos by category. The videos will be stored on a CDN (Amazon S3) with the file details in the database. These videos will then be playable inside the user's browser. Administrators may upload new videos. ## Deliverables **Hardware/Software Restrictions:** The site is and will continue to be hosted on an Amazon EC2 virtual server farm running Ubuntu 8.04 Server Edition. The site's code must be compatible with the OS environment (UTF-8, "\n" EOL, etc.). Since the site is running on Ubuntu 8.04, all code must be compatible with PHP 5.2.4 and MySQL 5.0.51a. Since the server's hard drives are volatile, no dynamic media may be stored on the server itself. All media will be stored in an Amazon S3 bucket and accessed via their CloudFront streaming service. Videos will be played back in the browser using the FlowPlayer embeded player. We have and will provide to you existing PHP functions/tips for interacting with S3, CloudFront, and FlowPlayer. You must create/have your own Amazon S3 account for testing of your code. Your code must allow us to configure our own Amazon security key and CloudFront URL, after delivery. These requirements cannot be changed. **Existing Software:** As stated earlier, the site runs off the Symfony framework. Currently, the site is using the version 1.4 line. Keeping Symfony is a priority, but is not required. Any PHP MVC of your choosing will do. Symfony is currently using the Doctrine ORM, via an official Symfony plugin, for communication with the database. Keeping an ORM is required (it also makes your life as a coder much simpler). Another ORM we use internally is Propel, also available as a Symfony plugin. The current template system, Apostrophe, is not required. The existing templates may be completely blown out and re-done as static pages or via another template system compatible with Symfony (or the MVC of your choosing). **Design Notes:** * Home page will have a scrolling image (jQuery/Flash) layout. * Secondary pages will have a more streamlined layout. * Simple, elegant, approx. 4-6 entry, navigation menu with sub-menu capability. * Approximately 6-10 static content text pages. Text will either be copied from existing site or provided to you. * A minimum of two contact forms will be needed (one for candidates and one for employers). The ability for visitors to upload documents with the form will be required as well. Forms will be emailed to a static email address. * The video portion will contain a main page with an alphabetical listing of categories. Category pages will contain alphabetical listings of videos. Video pages will playback the video and display any details. * Administrators will be allowed to upload videos, with accompanying details (detail fields TBD), and assign them to a single category. * No graphics will be supplied, except our existing HireTalent logo. You are expected to create, obtain, or purchase pictures legally for display on the site according to U.S. law. * Primarily designed for IE 7+ and Firefox 3.6+. * Design details mentioned elsewhere in this document are also valid. **Other Project Details:** * Full design requirements, in addition to the notes above, will be provided upon selection, or posted here prior to selection. * Content will be provided upon selection. * Source code (classes, methods, and logic) must be well documented using phpDoc compatible comments. * You will be expected to be available during initial installation/deployment of the code to provide any needed assistance. * You will be expected to provide initial bug fixes for the code for a period of no less than 2 weeks from the deployment of the code, as long as deployment occurs within 2 weeks of final submission. * You will be expected to provide timely responses to all communications and inquiries. **Example Sites:** * <[login to view URL]> **Additional Work:** We have massive plans for the future.
