Write protect an USB-drive

Hello! I might be able to help or at least clarify some stuff for you and point to the right solution. Please let me know if you need to protect just one device on a single machine or is it going to be a mass-protection for some kind of sticks, hard drives, mem cards, etc. used in random machines. I have a good reason to ask about that because there is basically *no* bulletproof method of 100% protection other than hardware level. Don't trust people who would like to sell you any kind of sofware as it would be so simple to get around with that it's a waste of time and money.
